Information for international students

Within the Faculty, the Erasmus+ coordinator will be your person of contact. If you have any specific questions regarding our study programme that are not answered on these pages, please send an email to erasmus.spowi(at)uni-leipzig.de or to the Erasmus+ coordinator. Regarding general questions that are not directly related to the Faculty of Sport Science, please contact the International Centre.

The application deadline for the winter semester is the 30th of June and for the summer semester it is the 15th of January.

The regular workload for one semester consists of 30 CP in total.  Please clarify with your home university how many credit points you will have to complete during your stay abroad.

The Faculty of Sport Science offers courses mainly in German. The minimum language requirement is B2.

Further, there are some courses held in English. For these courses all materials and literature are provided in English. Here you can check out the courses offered in English.

The University of Leipzig offers numerous ways to support international students in Leipzig:

  • Buddy Programme (initiated by the Studentenwerk): To help international students adjusting to life and finding their way in Leipzig, you can get in touch with a “Leipzig-experienced” buddy, who will support you beforehand by e-mail and later during your start in Leipzig.
  • WILMA is the student initiative for international students and offers another great way to meet new people and experience Leipzig.
  • The International Centre offers many helpful information on studying in Leipzig. Check out the general information for exchange students and specific steps you have to take before arriving in Leipzig, such as Visa regulations, health insurance or accommodation.

  • The Academic Lab is a helpful support regarding academic work and writing. They offer great workshops in the areas of research, writing and text analysis.

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

In order to register for the courses, please fill out this form (Formular für die nachträgliche Modulanmeldung) for each course you wish to attend and have it signed by the respective module supervisor. Then submit the form to the Studienbüro. The Learning Agreement is not sufficient.

Leipzig University offers exchange students a language and orientation course lasting approximately three weeks. The course takes place immediately before the start of your semester in Leipzig and prepares you perfectly for your stay abroad. There are mainly courses in English at master's level (30 ECTS). Occasionally there are also English courses at Bachelor level. Find out about the teaching language in the course catalog.

You can apply for a place in a student hall of residence through the Studentenwerk Leipzig. Here you can find information about the student halls of residences .
Alternatively, you can find flat-share rooms that are offered furnished for rent via WG-Gesucht.
