The International Seminar of Physical Education, Recreation and Health (SIEFLAS) was first held in 2005. Its initiation meant a dream come true for the Department of Physical Education and Recreation of the Child Study Institute of the University of Minho, Portugal. After that, two more seminars were held until the seminar became more international in 2008: For the first time it was hosted by the „Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná“ in Brazil. Since then, the event took place every year, either in Portugal or abroad. In 2009, the University of the Azores was responsible for organizing the event. One year later, the „Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná“ hosted the seminar. In 2011, the University of Minho was in charge again. It was the first time that the CIEC, which was only founded in January 2011, was responsible for organizational matters. Finally, the „Universidade Federal do Maranhão“ hosted the seminar in 2012, again in Brazil. In 2013, the event returned to its birthplace, the University of Minho. One year later, it was organized by the ”Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina”. After that, it was hosted by the “Instituto Politécnico do Porto” – Superior School of Education. The fact that two continents, Europe and South America, have hosted the event together over the last years makes it as unique as it is. In 2016, the seminar will be held in Germany for the very first time.
